What's
New?
|
|
|
December
31: After several aborted attempts and too-early announcements,
I think I can confidently say that I'll be recording a follow-up
solo project to 2004's Flesh, Blood,
and Bone. I'm not yet sure if I'll release a CD or download
only format yet. I've also not decided on the songs for the
project. I've got about 18-20 possible titles available including
some very old songs that I've reworked a bit, but expect to
limit the release to about 10 new songs. Instrumentation
is likely to be very acoustic much like the last studio sessions
I did that yielded Crooked
Little Heart, No Stone Unturned, and These
Empty Hands. More details as they unfold, but here's hoping
for a summer 2009 release.

December
19: I'm currently working on a new demo with Prairie
Soul. We've chosen five songs that represent the various
vocalists, instrumentation, and styles that we cover. As we
speak, we're about halfway through the recording process and
expect to finish in early January. One of the more exciting
aspects of this is that we're leaning towards making it available
for sale too. If you want more info or would like to place
a pre-order, drop me a
line.

November
16: One of Prairie Soul's biggest fans has recently undergone
a kidney transplant and is in need of a helping hand. We hope
to announce a benefit date soon for January or February. In
the mean time, let us know if you have suggestions on how to
make something like that work.

October
30: You've heard it a thousand times by now, so once more
won't hurt. Please vote your convictions on Tuesday,
November 4.
|
October
8: Prairie Soul's fiddler and vocalist, Ben Smith,
has another band called Caravelle. They perform on Friday,
Oct 17 at 8:30 at Mokabe's (S Grand and Arsenal). Be sure to
catch them live! To learn more, visit their myspace
page.

August
17: Two Million Stupid Women hit some post-production
issues and has had its release push back until late fall or
early winter. I'll keep you posted.
|
June
24: Just back from a trip to La La Land and was able to
meet with the lyric writer of "Everybody Thinks I'm
Wonderful." Things are looking very good! It appears
that the song will be used in the ending credits of Two
Million Stupid Women but will be performed by LA bluegrass
star, Stephanie
Bettman. I heard her version while there and was very impressed
by her "take." Thanks also to Chris
Moscatiello (who did the photography for Flesh,
Blood, and Bone) for the string arrangement! It's all
good.

June
5: Just want to bring everyone up to speed about our Music
Folk concert on July 27... This will be a bit different for
the band in that, we will actually be featuring original material
from Linda, Ben, and me. John will be supporting us as well
in a mix-and-match approach throughout the evening. The band
hopes to debut a few new covers as well. Anyway, we hope to
see you there.

May
6: We've added a tentative date at the Shaw Art Fair on
October 5. We're definitely thrilled to be included in such
an institution. Details soon.
|
April
22: Another lovely evening despite the weather! Third Degree
Glass Factory was a very nice venue and beautiful to see in
its own right. We've been invited back for a fall/winter gig,
so we'll let you know when we do.
|
April
13: We had a good time in the bar at Schlafly's this weekend.
What a great turnout! Thanks for supporting us. We're looking
forward to a return to the beer garden soon.
|
April
7: Prairie Soul is finally live again! Be sure to see us
at Schlafly's Bottle Works this Friday and Third Degree Glass
Factory on 4/18. Should be very cool.
|
March
28: I've added some new gigs recently for Prairie Soul and
for my solo work. First, Prairie Soul has been added to the
Boathouse
roster of bands. We're very pleased to be added in that they
only added three new bands this year. Prairie Soul will be anchoring
a Sunday Night Concert at Music
Folk in mid-summer. Linda, Ben, and I will play selections
from our solo work, John will back us up, and PS is likely to
debut a few new songs along the way. Lastly, John and I will
return to Chocolate
Cafe in late summer. More to come!

March
22: Good news about the demo being considered for Two
Million Stupid Women. They loved the demo! Right now, they're
considering what they want from their soundtrack. The
options include using it as is, adding another verse and expanding
it, or re-recording with different musicians in an expanded
form. It's all good!
|
March
18: I've added song samples to
the website! For now, they are samples from my 2004 release,
Flesh,
Blood, and Bone. Very soon, I'll give you a taste of
some demo work I've done over the last few years. Those
will certainly be works-in-progress, but may be interesting
to those of you who have heard these newer songs live. Enjoy!
|
March
6: Wow! Very cool happenings! I've got a chance at having
a song included in a movie. See the blog
page for details!
|
March
2: I've been approached about another Music Folk appearance.
Details pending.
|
February
27: It looks like Ben might join John and me for a few tunes
on March 21 too. How fun!
|
February
11: John Moulton from Prairie Soul will be sitting
in with me on some upcoming "solo" gigs including
the March 21 gig at Chocolate Cafe.
|
January
19: I've booked the first in a series of solo gigs. I'll
be playing at the Chocolate Cafe at Highway 40 and K
in St Charles. More to come soon!
