What's
New?
|
|
|
December
14: Rehearsals are going well. A sample of the songs we're
working on? Melissa by the Allman Brothers, Natural to
Be Gone by Jamie Hartford, Ophelia by the Band,
Drive South by John Hiatt, and Harvest Moon by Neil
Young. Loving
that list... And even more fun? I'm playing a lot more mandolin
in this configuration.
|
November
16: Well, well, well... Another old friend, Linda Chicoineau,
has decided check out the band and add her bass and vocal skills
along the way. This is getting even more interesting...
|
October
23: I've been exploring the possibility of a band these
last few weeks. I reconnected with an old friend, Michael
Bohn, who previously played electric lead guitar on several
studio sessions with me. Michael is now specializing in slide
guitar. Another friend, John Moulton, has expressed interest
in applying his flatpicking guitar and mandolin to this endeavour
as well. I'll keep you posted on how things develop, but I expect
John and Michael will be joining me on a few upcoming gigs.

October
15: I've been reminded by a friend of mine that there are
other sources other than iTunes to get mp3s of Richsongs.
eMusic is a very good source of folk, folk rock, singer
songwriter, and alt country music including indie stuff like
mine. To peruse their site, follow this handy link...
And just because my brain sometimes "sees" different
things in letters, let me assure you that eMusic is not a website
pertaining ailments commonly associated with ostriches. ;-)

October
6: Ken Raisanen of WOAS-FM in Michigan writes, "Wow!
Wow! Wow!" about Flesh, Blood, and Bone. He'll be writing
a full length reveiw soon which I will feature here. Thanks
for the support, Ken!

September
29: The third annual St. Louis Folk Festival has
been announced. Jill Stratton and Acoustic
City continue to amaze with the array of talent she brings
to town. This time around she presents Vance Gilbert,
Nerissa & Katryna Nields, and Girlyman at
the Sheldon
on Friday, February 2. More details to follow! See you there!
|
September
27: If you are remotely interested in Irish music, check
out Patsy
O'Brien at McGurk's in Soulard. Patsy will be performing
(guitar) with Tommy Martin (piper) and Kevin Buckley
(fiddle) Tuesdays through Fridays (October 3-28). Here's hoping
that Patsy will have a songwriter gig while he's in town as
well. Great stuff and even better live. What a guitarist!

September
24: Had a great time last night at the Soulard Coffee Garden
with Tony Cornejo and Jesse Irwin. When you combine torreador
entrances, Lou Reed references, Johnny Cash songs,
songs about Crystal Meth, and Richsongs, you know you've
had a rare experience. I don't think I've laughed as much as
at a gig in a very long time. Thanks to all who came out and
shame on those who missed it! Soulard Coffee Garden has invited
us back pending an agreeable date. More details as soon as they're
available.

August
25: Just booked a new venue with an old musical friend of
mine, Tony Cornejo. Join us on September 23 at the Soulard
Coffee House for three hours of eclectic solo music. I'll
be doing my usual acoustic rantings, but Tony will be performing
his own unique versions of familiar and odd songs on the keys.
A third guest will be joining us for the first of several events
the Soulard CH is planning. More details soon.

14: Inspiration strikes in unusual places. While trying
to get a weather a forecast, a line I've heard a thousand
times struck me differently. Within a couple of hours, I completed
a new lyric. Here's a few lines from what I hope will be a
new song soon, There's a Chance of Rain Today:
|
It
may rain and it may not
There's just no way to tell
And never really knowing
Is my piece of hell
There's a chance of rain today
There's a chance of rain today

July
8: An interesting thing is happening in the music industry
that is causing me to re-think my upcoming recording project.
With the advent of iPods and downloadable music, the traditional
album is becoming less and less relevant. The actual production
of a full, 12-15 song CD along with liner notes, jewel cases,
and then storage and handling becomes an expensive and cumbersome
prospect. Still, you need something tangible to sell. I'm thinking,
therefore, of producing a series of mini-CDs instead
of a full-blown project. I'll expand on this idea a bit more
in the blog.

June
26: Amazingly, more radio stations in Australia and Europe
are picking up songs from Flesh, Blood, and Bone! Deejays
are currently playing five different cuts: No Stone Unturned,
Colorado, Maybe Next Time, Emily, and Time Flies. Thanks to
all!
|
May
11: The final report just arrived for the airplay I received
for the Acoustic Rainbow CD released to radio last winter.
What a pleasant surprise to see that No Stone Unturned has been
played by 25 new American radio stations and 29 international
radio stations. Thanks to all of the DJs who took the time
to listen and then spin the disc.

April
24: Just booked a relatively last minute gig at St Charles
Coffeehouse. Jack tells me that May will likely be the last
month he books music for awhile. It seems they get slower during
the summer months. So, if that's your venue of choice to come
see me, be sure to come out on May 5. And, if you go
there to hear other music, be sure to encourage Jack to keep
booking.
|
April
10: And the hits just keep coming! I finished another new
song today, All These Voices. Why songs come in bunches,
I'll never know, but am thankful for them nonetheless.
|
April
9: Someone recently asked where they can hear song samples
from Flesh, Blood, and Bone. I guess over the months, the
link has gotten a little buried. I increased the prominence
of the link
on the music page, but also am posting it here.
Thanks for the heads up.

April
8: Completed a new song today, Begun to Fly. As I've
said before, songwriting is cheaper than therapy. I'll be debuting
this one very soon.
|
March
10: A new coffee house, Wired Coffee, has opened
in Sunset Hills. The owners, Jan and Julie Jobe, have set this
up as a wifi cafe and are serving gourmet ice creams and desserts
to go along with their fine coffee drinks. While they haven't
decided yet whether they'll be booking music regularly, I'll
be doing a few special events with them this spring. If you
stop by to check them out, please be sure to ask about music
and mention me by name!
|
February
19: I seem to be big in Alaska still! Three radio stations
and an internet radio station in the 49th State are playing
songs from Flesh, Blood, and Bone. Mostly, they've played No
Stone Unturned, but Time Flies and Colorado
seem to be favorites as well. In tribute, I'll begin watching
Northern Exposure reruns immediately. ;-)
|
January
11: I've decided to launch a blog as part of this
website. I figure, why not? I'm already paying for the space
and sometimes a song isn't the best place to say your peace
(unless you're Bob Dylan). I'm hoping to make 2-3 entries a
week and provide a place for your comments as well. Click here
if the blog thing is your 21st century
bag.
|
January
9: Welcome to two new radio stations playing RichSongs!
Just heard today that "No Stone Unturned" was picked
up by a station in Arkansas and an internet radio station as
well. Thanks for the support!
|
January
7: Just read my last blurb and realized that you might think
that the old Picasso's is closed. Au contraire! The Main
Street location is the second location of Picasso's in Chris
Schulte's ultimate goal of putting Starbucks under. As a matter
of fact, I'll be at the original Picasso's next week (Jan 14)
in a solo show.
